Working Safely in Signage

Safe Work Month is an Australian wide safety awareness initiative for the month of October. Every year Signs & Lines embrace this scheme by running a number of safety focused activities and attend training offered as part of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety. Working safely in signage is an integral part of our professional service and our safety record attests this. However, there is never room for complacency. For the 6th year running we will participate in October’s safe work month.

The theme of WA’s 2020 Safe Work Month is:

“Staying focused on workplace health and safety”.

As with many things in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the landscape on health and safety. It is even more important to remain focused on health and safety overall – which is reflected in our ongoing support of this initiative.

Whilst traditional events are still on hold, the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety is going to keep businesses up-to-date on important topics. During Safe Work Month there will be a program of virtual events for the month of October.

These will include on-demand presentations by experts from DMIRS and live-stream question and answer sessions with industry experts.

Our Safety Reps and key staff will be selected to attend these talks.

Importantly, our Safety record continues to be excellent but there is never room for complacency.

Toolbox meetings and pre-start talks remain a key feature of our communication strategy on all things related to safety in the workplace and for site works.

Signs & Lines Safety Month Focus

We are going to run the following initiatives this month to focus everyone’s mind on the important of safety:-

  1. Firstly a safety focused morning tea/bacon butties
  2. Secondly a “Safety Quotes” competition – asking every staff member to come up with a safety quote that reflects what safety means to them. These will be published.
  3. Thirdly, remote attendance in safety training – if courses are relevant (to be announced soon)
  4. Safety Toolbox & Quiz
  5. Finally, drum roll … the Safety Champion announcement. For the person that has continually exhibited the highest regard and imputed the most to the safety of Signs & Lines.

This month we’re going to be running a Safety Quotes competition to allow all our staff to input their voice on what safety means to them.

Importantly, we’ll be sharing these contributions at the end of October.
