Unilodge Perth Central is a new student living in Perth’s CBD, offering a combination of modern facilities and social opportunities. Opening in 2026, the 30 storey building has recently had its sky signs added – thanks to WA’s favourite signage company – Signs & Lines.
Why sky signs? Importantly, sky signage is a powerful way to upgrade brand visibility and certainly makes a bold statement. They have real power for business located in high-traffic areas. They are visible from afar. So they are effective at attracting attention from pedestrians, motorists and the general public. Once illuminated their 24/7 promotional ability is even more rewarding. Bottom line – sky signage offers high marketing value for money.
Scope of Works
Signs & Lines were contracted to leading construction company, Built. The scope of works involved two main sign types. Firstly, a sky sign on the prominent northern elevation. Secondly, two sets of vertical signage – on the eastern and western elevations of the building.

Following a detailed design and engineering phase our in-house manufacturing facility went to work. The LED illuminated sky sign on the northern elevation was fabricated from aluminium. Constructed with face illuminated lettering the ‘U’ stands at 2 metres high.  The perforated aluminium faces are held in place with keepers. The sign was part painted 2pack matt red (UNI) and part painted matt white (LODGE). Illumination is provided by high performance LEDs. All the letters were fitted to rail support system. The truss frame was mounted to steel structural out rigger supports.

Sky Sign – Roof Top

Prior to install the signage underwent a thorough QC check-off. Then all the elements were transported to site using a hiab and lifted into position by the onsite tower crane. Installation methodology is a key component to getting a signage project of this scale right. Our project management team initiate a meticulous review of the site conditions, hazards and signage requirements. Every detail is carefully considered to ensure that our time on site is efficient, safe and productive. After a pre-start meeting, it’s then down to the site crews. Experience counts for alot! Our talented site crews operate with precision and skill – nice work Archie and Phil.

Vertical Signage

The Signs & Lines team also made and installed two sets of lower level, vertical facade signs. These were non-illuminated and constructed in house using the full range of manufacturing talents. Once the raw materials had been routered, our skilled fabrication department went to work creating the signage elements prior to installation. As these signs were positioned at lower levels on the building they could be installed using an EWP.

As they say in the sign game, every sign is different, every building has a different set of requirements. No two days are the same!

Final Wrap

Sky signs offer a unique and impactful way to advertise and build brand recognition, providing long-term exposure and a memorable visual presence.

Sky signage refers to any form of a large format sign that sits on top of a building. They are typically illuminated with LED internal lighting for visibility. Sky signs make a big impact on the skyline of any city. However there are some red flags! Make sure you know the regulations and building materials allowed when planning a major project like this. There are new’ish limitations in place that your signage specialist should be able to guide you through. We wary of expensing alot of money on non-compliant signage. We can help with this.
