STADIUM SOLUTIONS WITH DIGITAL SIGNAGE

Scoreboards, videoboards, ribbon LED advertising and digital entertainment are the key to standout stadium solutions with digital signage. Yap!digital’s landmark project for HBF Park stadium involved a significant digital signage upgrade in preparation for World Class Women’s Football Event scheduled to start this month. Sports and concert events require stadium solutions with digital signage for 2 key reasons. Firstly to provide close up visuals of the event itself. And secondly to ensure associated advertising revenues are maximised.

Overview of HBF Park Stadium

HBF Park is a state-of-the-art rectangular stadium providing world class sporting and concert events. The HBF Park stadium is unique in that it the only rectangular stadium in Perth, making it the obvious choice for concerts and sports events. Preparations started early with the Department of Finance engaging Yap!digital for these digital signage works in late 2021.

As well as the Women’s Football Event, the venue is highly sought after for other standout stadium events such as the Harry Styles Concert, Perth Glory soccer, Western Force rugby and major musical and corporate events.

Stadium Digital Signage

Digital signage at events is a massive contributor towards the ‘fan-first’ atmosphere that drives ticket sales. For both event attendees and stay at home fans alike, the need to provide an immersive event and advertising fan experience has never been greater.

Our scope of works for the HBF Park Readiness Project included two large scale LED Videoboards and three new pitch advertising LED digital ribbons.

In partnership with the leading global stadium digital screen provider, Daktronics, the formidable combination of two leaders in their field provided a low risk solution for our clients. Despite complexities and challenges posed by Covid-19, our project team were able to overcome them in ample time. Importantly, tesing prior to the Football event was completed in early 2023.

Stadium Signage

As you can see by the images, the scale of this digital signage installation is huge. Our scope included a design, electrical engineering, manufacture of housings, supply and installation of digital screens and three pitch perimeter ribbon screens.

The two LED Videoboards installed at HBF Park are a giant 14 meters by 9 meters, offering two digital display viewing areas in excess of 130m² each.   These Videoboards, located at both the NW and SE corners, offer high visibility of the pitch antics for HBF Park’s 20,500+ seat holders, offering a quality view via the Daktronics premium screens.

Therefore the size of the two videoboard installations allows punters to catch the action from every vantage point in the stadium.

The Yap!digital Scope of Works

Using the existing videoboard structures our team removed the existing screens and retrofitted new, premium Daktronics screens. The existing pitch ribbons were removed and new, premium grade Daktronics screens installed on the North, South and East perimetres covering over 270 metres. This required extensive modification, structural reinforcement and access framing to create engineered, compliant structures. The Yap!digital and Daktronics combined scope of works included:-

  • shop drawing design
  • documentation
  • engineering
  • procurement
  • fabrication
  • supply of screens and associated services
  • delivery and storage on site
  • cabling, terminations, electrical connections,
  • installation
  • configuration
  • content support, programming plus testing and commissioning.

Included in the project is an extended, 10 year warranty on all the Daktronics screens and modules. Full training on game software, integration into existing systems and maintenance of the screens was also included.

Commissioning & Control Systems

The technical brief required a full comprehension of the control system programming, AV cabling, software and firmware, security, testing, commissioning and warranty. Our team needed a full, in-depth knowledge of the equipment, functionality and installation works for the upgrade.

Bump In/Bump Out Logistics

Managing site works around other contractors is always a juggle. This, combined with scheduled concerts midway through 2022 required careful ‘bump in/bump’ out logistics. Importantly, we needed to make sure our plant and installation teams did not impact venue users. Multiple changes to the scheduling and GANTT were required to manage these road-bumps. However, with commissioning of the videoboards in late 2022 and the ribbons in early 2023, the team completed the works to schedule.

Our project management team applied excellent proactive mitigation skills to prevent any major issues arising during this multi-million dollar project.
