Engineering a smarter installation – our latest challenge for WACA’s new large-format LED digital screen. August 2026 saw the Yap!digital/Signs & Lines deliver another major digital signage installation at the iconic WACA Ground. We worked for Surevision to create a large-format LED digital screen that makes a powerful visual statement. At 8.6 metres wide by 5 metres high, the new LED display is a significant addition to WACA’s growing digital signage environment. This screen being the latest in a series of the venue’s existing internal digital screens and mega digital scoreboard. Delivered by yours truly!!

Large-Format LED Digital Signage, Designed and Built in Perth
Importantly, projects of this scale require more than simply supplying an LED screen. The supporting structure, fabrication, logistics and installation methodology all need to be carefully considered from the outset. The aluminium support frame was designed and fabricated by the Signs & Lines team at our Midvale factory. Engineered specifically for the installation, the frame provides the robust structural support required for the large digital display. The frame was installed whilst allowing the project to be assembled and prepared before arriving on site.
The LED modules were supplied by Surevision. Yap!digital/Signs & Lines managed the fabrication, project coordination and installation requirements as a turnkey solution. This end-to-end capability allows our team to manage complex signage projects from design and engineering through to fabrication and installation.
When the Installation Plan Needs to Change
One of the biggest challenges of the project came during the installation planning process.
The original methodology involved using a crane to position and install the large LED screen onto the wall. However, the proposed crane location was in an area affected by ATCO gas infrastructure, creating additional considerations around underground services and ground conditions.
Extensive potholing investigations were required to establish whether the proposed crane operation could proceed safely and without compromising existing infrastructure.
Following a detailed assessment, it became clear that an alternative installation methodology would provide a more practical and efficient solution.
The Answer? Rope Access
A smaller crane was used to hoist the framework onto the building parapet. Working with Empire Rope Access, the Signs & Lines project team developed an alternative installation approach that allowed the screen to be installed in 2 parts.
Changing the methodology required careful coordination, detailed planning and a strong focus on safety. It also demonstrated an important part of delivering complex signage projects: flexibility. Critically this ability to adapt when site conditions don’t match the original plan is essential in our line of work.
Precision Installation at the WACA
Final installation was completed in August 2026. The Signs & Lines site team worked closely with Empire Rope Access to safely position and install the large-format LED display.
For a digital screen measuring approximately 8.6m x 5m, precision is critical. The installation required careful project management across fabrication, transport, access, positioning and installation to ensure a perfect finish.
From the aluminium frame fabricated at our Midvale facility to the specialist installation at the WACA, multiple teams and disciplines came together to deliver the finished result.
Digital Signage That Makes an Impact
Billboard LED screens are increasingly being used by venues, sporting facilities and public spaces to create high-impact digital experiences.
The new WACA display adds another significant digital element to one of Perth’s most recognisable sporting venues. It provides a highly visible platform for digital content and continues the venue’s evolution into a more digitally connected environment.
For Signs & Lines, the project is another example of our experience delivering large-scale digital signage and LED screen installations in Perth, particularly where engineering, fabrication and challenging site conditions need to be considered together.
