Quality Signage Matters – Who’s Listening?
An oft wondered thought. Managers and communications strategists often face the problem of (not) being heard. Signage literally falling on deaf ears! Not necessarily literally, but definitely on a more holistic level. If quality signage matters, I pose this question – how can you tell that people are seeing, hearing, listening and taking heed of your signage information?
As a signage company, this is top of our agenda too. So how do we ensure that our solutions are being noticed? How can we ensure people are ‘listening’ to our signage? Honestly, the answer is not always crystal clear! As a result of using a combination of traditional static signage and modern digital signage we feel we get closer to a solution where messaging is effective, timely and clear.
In many modern situations, a combination of both types of signage will be both efficient and cost effective. Digital signage is ideal for those situations where messaging may change regularly or needs to be engaging. Conventional signage is great for cost effective solutions, where the messaging will not change. Examples may be a bend in the road sign or a high voltage warning sign.
Conventional Safety Signage
Our work zone and mine site range of signage includes a diverse range of products for any application. Temporary options include coreflute signage with a short shelf life. Long term statutory, traffic and danger signage needs to be made of materials suited to harsh environmental conditions. As a result we use aluminium which is designed to withstand weather events. Vehicle identification, hazard control and first aid signage are all critical for worker safety. The list of signage applications is exhaustive and the key is to never underestimate the worth of a simple safety sign.
Business Reinvention: Going Digital
Irrespective of the type of industry or workplace you operate, embedding scaleable digital signage into a business has the power to transform. This is the future. Most importantly, this is the now!
And any forward thinking company looking to engage with their stakeholders or reinvent their business model should be considering digital signage. So there are three key convincing arguments that support the use of digital signage:-
- enhanced safety;
- improved productivity;
- reduced costs.
Therefore, the additional benefit of future-proofing the business in a technology-led era should not be underestimated.
You want to be Heard – What Types of Signage Work Best?
Looking at this requires an understanding of where your audience is likely to interact with communication. Understanding how and how and where digital signage could be deployed is the first step. Look around you. Our lives are surrounded by digital signage telling us messages – whether it be safety reminders roads, ordering at the fast food restaurant, maps at the shopping centre or buying tickets at the train stations. There are so many uses for the technology and research* shows that it will be more and more important in the future of the modern workspace.
Digital signage is also a great asset at head office or events and exhibitions. The power of the innovative technology will draw in interest and present the organisation as a future focused operation.
Worker Engagement
Does your signage fall on deaf ears? Safety signs in particular can become lost in the clutter. So when there are alot of critical messages to relay what can be done to make this signage stand out? Think – eg. Danger, Fire, Caution, Regulatory, Mandatory, Safety Devices, Hazard Markers, Workplace or Transport Road Signs,
VMS messaging is one option. Flashing safety or high risk zone signage such as speed warning signs are highly visible. Blinking VMS signage creates instant awareness of speed limits. This is a low maintenance and ultra-reliable solution for high-risk areas.
Whilst traditional safety signage has its place, the introduction of innovative digital safety Signage helps create a safe workplace communication program that really engages employees.
Working with key corporate and local on-site staff, our team can create appealing content and messaging. Our team will develop branded designs with engaging content – either as a digital display or interactive touchscreen.
We will show you how to get the most value out of the digital signage communications programmes. We’ll make sure that key safety messages will be consistent across multiple departments and locations. Ultimately, the technology can help to improve Occupational Health and Safety by providing digital signage solutions that get noticed.
