Digital Entry Pylon @ Belmont

City of Belmont has a striking new digital entry pylon at Faulkner Park Civic Precinct.  The Signs & Lines/Yap!digital team were involved from concept stage, right through to project completion. Importantly this turnkey delivery provided assurance for our client. The digital entry pylon sign stands at 6 metres high and features custom header and skirt shapes with integrated P6 digital screens.

Design Talents – Concepts & Artwork

A unique styling was conceived by our designer back in 2019. Working with the City we created a modern pylon style to complement the new community centre. Our in-house designers prepared detailed shop drawings which included 4 special features.

Firstly the pylon had P6 outdoor digital screens on either side. Secondly, rust finishes were used on the aluminium skirt and distinct top cap of the pylon to simulate corten steel.  Thirdly the unique flared skirt feature at the base and header of the pylon. These posed challenges both aesthetically and with the practicalities of fabrication. Lastly we added halo illuminated City of Belmont lettering and logo were incorporated into each side of the sign.

Our turnkey offering included:-

  • design;
  • hardware;
  • software;
  • installation;
  • CCTV and WIFI integration;
  • electrical, commissioning;
  • initial content development;
  • content training.

Challenges & Opportunities

Challenges faced included producing complex rout shapes from 3mm thick aluminium. These had to provide sufficient support to the pylon structure. A complex 3D model was created using AutoCAD and Sketchup. As a result we could develop the rout shapes and ensure fabrication precision.

Working hand in hand with various teams from the City of Belmont. These included the project team, IT department, Parks Department, and Traffic Management Department.

The installation was fine tuned to create minimum disruption to the City. Advance planning and meticulous attention to detail ensured that the installation went to plan. All in all, this project achieved highly successful results and feedback.

Our Yap!digital team manufactured and installed the signage prior to the facility opening in October 2020. For more on our digital signage offerings go to our website.

More about the Belmont’s Hub
The Belmont Hub received a 6 Star Green Star (Public Building) Design and As Built certification. The building is the first project in Western Australian to be certified under the latest version of Green Star rating tool (V1.2), and only the fourth local government project to achieve this rating. As a result the building has a significantly lower environmental footprint. Learn more about this exciting achievement here 👉 www.belmont.wa.gov.au/6-star-rating
