Robyn, our amazing Accounts Manager, joined #SignsandLines 20 years ago – on 7th December 2004. So much has changed in that time… but one thing is for sure, Mark & I couldn’t have done it without her. With 20 years at Signs & Lines under her belt, Robyn epitomises what a loyal and dedicated employee is. She has looked after our accounts and payroll – her role evolving from when we only had 3 staff, to the 45 we have now! We take a look at how things have changed during Robyn’s 20 years at Signs & Lines.
Whilst the numbers are critical, Robyn’s contribution to Signs & Lines over the years has been way more than that! She is a rock to many – a willing ear, a confidante, a mentor, a person to share a laugh or joke, the life and soul of the party and someone who will willingly help with anything. She has always been on the winning podium at our numerous ‘cook-off’s during the years and what many don’t know is that she willingly works weekends and Xmas holidays to ensure that the wheels of S&L keep turning.
That’s alot of Accounting!

Now let’s get into the specifics – some numbers – that Robyn has been part of over the journey. Here are a few calculations:-

  • Weeks of payroll processed – 1042 weeks
  • Months of P&Ls completed – 239 months
  • Years of company accounts done – 20 years
  • Cashflow meetings – too many to count – hundreds?
  • BAS & ATO reporting – over 200 occasions
  • Sales invoices raised – $100 million
  • New systems learned – trade finance, invoice finance, MyGov, NABConnect, the list goes on!
The Early Days

In the early days Robyn’s job was based in a small, manky reception in the backwaters of Midland. Squashed between the rail tracks and Bunnings the role involved working behind the hideous orange reception desk (it must have been ‘on special’ as no-one in their right mind would have paid full price for the horrible bright orange.  Robyn was a mum of two very small children, but at the interview she declared with no fuss that she was ready to be a working mum!

Rewind 20 years and Robyn didn’t have technology to assist in accounts processing. At that time she sent letters to communicate information and used faxes to send urgent messages. She posted cheques or made in person bank deposits. Emails were not really in use and mobile phones, photos from phones, internet, social media, etc etc were non-existent. Robyn’s strong numerical and administrative base soon saw her taking on more than just accounts and for many years Robyn took on the role of purchasing too. As the company evolved so did Robyn!

Recognition of the Best
