Proving that it’s not all hard work, four game players from Signs & Lines lined up for the ASGA WA Sign & Print Golf Day 2025 this week. ASGA – the Australian Sign & Graphics Association – is the industry’s peak body.  They contribute and disseminate valuable information, guidance, IP and events across the country. This year’s golf event saw Robbie, Craig, Jay and Josie don on the S&L caps and shirts. Luck was on our side and despite 100mm+ of rain in the previous few days, the sun shone and the rain stayed at bay.  ASGA put on a great event with support from over 60 others from the sign trade and industry in WA.

Generous sponsors of the ASGA Golf Day such as Graphic Art Mart, Orafol, BounceLED, Signarama and Mulford lined up a feast of prizes. There were awards for nearest the pins, longest drives, team honours and the ‘lucky ball’ draw (more on that later!!).

Golf Shenanigans

Held on the Tuart Course of Wembley Golf Course, the S&L team limbered up at lunchtime and set out onto the course for the 12.30 shotgun start. Hole 7, 8 and 9 saw us in regulation. Four par 4’s – 4 shots on each. We were quietly very pleased with our efforts.  Some fortunate Yinging and Yanging saw us combining well. Superb drives, talented putting and a few wayward shots in between seemed to be our mode of operandi. But the beauty of the Ambrose format is that everyone plays a shot, but only one has to count!! Luckily Jay saved the day on a couple of occasions … We hit our straps on holes 16, 17 and 18. Robbie hit a mighty, straight drive on the longest drive hole – we thought he’d won the prize. Josie holed a particularly jammy put on the par 3 18th from 45 metres to get a birdie. We were on fire!!!

By the closing few holes we were really getting into our stride. Craig saved the day with some dead-eye approach shots and our scorecard finished quite respectable.

Prize Giving

After almost 5 hours on the course we were ready for refreshments and this did not disappoint. A tasty buffet was enjoyed by all. Damian from ASGA said a few words and then to the prizes. The Signs & Lines team did not come in the top 3 team awards – but with only a couple of bogeys on the scorecard we weren’t the NAGA (worst!). The nearest the pin prizes escaped us by miles, as did the longest drive.

Luckily through Jay’s insistence we had used and kept (not lost!) the ‘lucky yellow ball’ for the entire round.  In a lucky dip type arrangement, the Signs & Lines ball was drawn out of the hat. We won the ‘lucky ball’ prize so big smiles all around. See our wine tally on the left!

Final Wrap

Golf is not easy. For those that have played, this quotation rings true “Golf is a compromise between what your ego wants you to do, what experience tells you to do, and what your nerves let you do.” [Bruce Crampton]

Thanks again to ASGA, the sponsors and our Signs & Lines golf team for making it a day to remember. The annual ASGA Golf Day is a great way to mix suppliers and signage companies across WA. Highly recommended. See you in 2026!
