NAIDOC Week Signage

This week in factory we’re getting ready for NAIDOC week – Sun, 2 July 2023 – Sun, 9 July 2023. Loving these artistic letters that are currently in production but will be out and about in place for the celebrations in Perth’s CBD. Our client, Wellineux, commissioned the signage for the Central Park Building – celebrating NAIDOC week with modular signage.

Two sets of free-standing, cut out letters were designed for short term use only. With this in mind, we chose a foam ply substrate with a FSC certified hardwood timber veneer with digital print to the face of the letters. The letters were built in a modular system to a height of 800mm – ideal for internal locations.

The eventual location for the letters is in the main foyer entry ways to the impressive Central Park building – it’s fair to say this signage packs a very nice punch in acknowledgement of this important week.

NAIDOC Week Theme

This year the theme is ‘For our Elders’. Information relating to the planned activities can be found at the website  here.

With a growing awareness of the distinct cultural histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the committee is now known as the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC). Importantly, this new name has become the title for the whole week, not just the day. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s.  Their goal was to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Look how far they’ve come!

Did you know? The National NAIDOC Committee respectfully acknowledges the now defunct and inaccurate term ‘Aborigines’, however it has retained the term in the NAIDOC title due to historic use by Elders in establishing this week of commemoration in 1938.

2023 National NAIDOC Weed Award Finalists

This year’s National NAIDOC Week Award finalists are selected from a pool of almost 200 nominees. Importantly these finalists exemplify the spirit of NAIDOC.  Above all NAIDOC is a week-long celebration of Blak excellence across the Country. Details of the finalists can be found by following this link.
