National Safe Work Month
Today marks the start of National Safe Work Month. Signs & Lines have always embraced National Safe Work Month as a time to review and refocus on safety. 2024 is no different! We will be reinforcing to all and sundry that safety is our business – and everyone’s business from management to staff, to our subbies, valued clients and suppliers.
Working in our type of signage is a high risk business – of course, we have the smaller low risk decals and posters, but the majority of our work involves ‘safety smarts’. Whether it be excavating or keeping the general public safe, working at heights or using machinery, we always need to have our ‘safety smarts’ focused on the main job of keeping everyone safe.
Our Safety Smart Activities
Safety matters come in all different shapes and sizes. Some desktop activities that are critical in our operations include SWMS preparation, dial before you dig reviews and detailed installation methodologies. Team consultation and pre-start checks play a large part of our ongoing review process and information sharing. Toolbox talks and in-house training are a great way to regularly meet and share knowledge. Recently we’ve been undertaking some spotter training and a refresher on hazardous chemicals.
This October Dave will be performing a number of checks – for tools, PPE, at heights equipment, spirit levels and tape measure calibrations, hard hat, boots and first aid reviews plus alot more! It’s a busy month…
And, our quarterly Safety Reps meeting will review both macro and micro level OSH activities, issues, initiatives and ideas related to safety – as well as performing factory checks across all departments.
Our Safety Action Plan for October 2024
As outlined to our staff today, we have a few initiatives planned to ensure we are all maintaining a keen focus on keeping ourselves safe –
- SafeTea – we’ll be holding a morning tea/brekkie Toolbox to give everyone a chance to think and chat about safety smarts…
- Safety Reps Meeting – strategic review of safety at S&L plus staff feedback/ideas
- Checks of our safety protocols & PPE
- Focus topics available via the national safety website – refer to topic links below from WorkSafe WA .
- Update of S&L safety noticeboards
- Annual re-issue of our over-arching 2.0 EHS [Environment Health & Safety] Policy.
