Darwin Plaza Signage
Looking to beat the cool weather, Signs and Lines went up North… to Darwin!
Last year Signs & Lines installed new branding signage for Pharmacy 777 in Port Headland and Karratha. This involved travelling over 1,500km!
It was a great triumph for the team. It shows what can we could accomplish with our careful planning and great team.
But in 2023, we smashed this feat out of the park with the completion of a 10m (!!!) long display wall signage feature for Darwin Plaza. Darwin, which is over 2,600km away from Perth, made this project an interesting one.
After the sign had been printed, we installed it in our workshop to make sure it was everything the client wanted! To no surprise, it passed with flying colours! After it was disassembled it was packed up and on its way to Darwin.
Darwin Plaza Display Wall
This tribute wall to Darwin’s first power station and its owner Felix Ernest Holmes was created in modular sections. This means it was able to be created and then built in the Signs & Lines workshop for an inspection. Following this it was taken apart back into its sections without any damage and ready to go to Darwin!
The sign is made from fabricated aluminium framework and was clad with 3mm ACM with digital prints. 10mm clear acrylic panels stand away from the face of the sign with satin chrome mounts. These clear acrylic panels had gloss laminate digital print applied to the rear to provide a 3D effect.
Did we mention that this sign features LEDs as well? Fabricated acrylic lightbox faces, with stencil cut vinyl graphics are fixed to the framework and internally illuminated with LED’s.
Sign Context
The sign itself is a stunning display of black and white vintage photos combined with a bright yellow and muted blue colour theme and accompanied text explores the first power station in Darwin. The site that Felix Ernest Holmes had initially operated Darwin’s first public power station on, is now home to the Darwin Plaza. It was an honour to help create this homage for the person who switched on Darwin!
